Transportation Department Highlights

Our Transportation Department includes our school bus drivers, bus aides that transport and assist our precious cargoes from home to school and back, through rain or shine. Our mechanics make sure that our school buses are in good working order and our office staff help with the needs of everyone in our transportation world.

Blanca

What attracted Blanca to work for Pittsburg Unified School District as a bus driver was the requirements of being a professional and to be certified. “Our scholars are transported by licensed professionals”, she proudly said. Blanca has been working for the Transportation Department for 6 ½ years now.

Following the rules and regulations is important to Blanca as it keeps her and her scholars safe. She is caring and a good listener; a quality that is a plus in being a school bus driver. She is also bilingual. This helps her communicate with students and parents who have a language barrier.

Blanca enjoys reading religious books, fishing, and cooking in her spare time. At this point in her life, she is proud to have her job. She might not be a lawyer or a teacher, but being an accomplished school bus driver, she serves an important role in her scholars' lives and education.

“El que madruga Dios lo ayuda” translates to “He/She who wakes up early in the morning, God will provide.” She loves this phrase as waking up at the crack of dawn is part of being a school bus driver.

Catherine

Catherine has been working for the Transportation Department for more than 30 years. Being a school bus driver is not just a job for Catherine.  She expresses that “working with kids, you have to love what you do and have a heart. You can’t have a negative attitude or an unfriendly attitude. You have to know your kids and parents while building a rapport with them, as after all, parents entrust their kids with us. Empathy and compassion are a must without having a discriminatory mindset towards any child. Therefore, working with kids is more than just a job.”

Catherine always tries to see the good in people. She is a very good listener and a very dedicated employee. She will offer her help and advice to anyone who is receptive because the knowledge and experience of driving for 31 years are well deserved. She got to the point in her life where she did not let others upset her happiness. She does what makes her happy and enjoys every minute of life that God grants her.

For hobbies, Catherine enjoys going to concerts, movies, and camping. She likes to read and spend leisure time by the pool in her backyard, barbecuing, and having swim parties with her grandkids.

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” A positive quote Catherine lives by. “It is necessary to respect others even though we may and have different opinions. We have to do that in order to live and survive in this world. Every day is not good or perfect, but it is how you react that will determine your outcome and destination in life!!”

Cozy

Cozy is one of our bus aides who has been with the Transportation Department since August of 2021. What she likes about working for the Transportation Department is the friendly staff and learning how to take care of our precious cargoes. She is good at observing situations and surroundings and being ready to help when needed.

Cozy enjoys travelling, attending sports events, going to plays and concerts. She loves reading books and playing games with her family. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” is the positive quote she lives by. Treat others like we would like to be treated, with kindness, respect and love. Her personal accomplishment is being a mom. The challenges of mentoring and raising her children made her selfless.

Julie

Julie received this “Thank You” poster from her students during the summer. What a nice and fulfilling reward for a profession that can be a challenge!

Julie has been driving for PUSD for over 4 years now. What she likes most about working for the Transportation Department is the real service we provide our community, “It makes a tangible difference that is easily seen”, she adds.

When she is not driving our students, she enjoys reading, sewing, and gardening. She is decisive and fluid at the same time. She has common sense. All essential strengths for a school bus driver.

She is a life-professed member of the Dominican Lady, a personal accomplishment she is proud of. “This allows me to live a life of prayer and service to my fellow man.”

Perla

Driving is a way for Perla to connect with nature and appreciate different sceneries. She has been working for the transportation department for 5 years now. Being a school bus driver helps her connect with special needs students. She believes that they are here to teach us compassion. “Watching them every day gives me hope for a better world.” Coming from a different country and learn English is one of her personal accomplishments. In her spare time, she enjoys reading personal achievements or psychological books. She likes to spend her time in her garden and watching her plants grow. A positive quote that she applies to her personal life is “If you cannot say anything nice, don’t say anything at all”.

Robyn

Our very own supervisor, Robyn, was recognized in the October 2021 edition of “Rising Superstar” by School Transportation News. It is with great honor to have one of our PUSD team leaders acknowledged for her hard work and dedication to the Transportation Department.

Endre

Endre has been working with the Transportation Department as a sub bus-aide for about a year now. It’s a great place to work for Endre because he likes his co-workers and helping students get to school and home safely. His high energy and being fairly young helps with his job because of how active our students can be especially after school going home. His positive attitude and mentality has given him accolades from school site management.

He likes working out between his shift. He enjoys playing video games with his family and spending time with friends. To have a 4.0 GPA in college is a personal accomplishment for Endre because of the hard work he put in it. He is on his way to transfer to a 4-year college to major in Business Administration. A quote that really stuck with his is “Always try to be nice, but never to fail to be kind” from his favorite show Dr. Who.
